Potter Marsh turns 100! Help celebrate Anchorage’s most popular wildlife viewing area at this free annual event. This family-friendly nature festival brings you birding stations along the boardwalk, captive birds from Bird TLC, educational animals from the Alaska Zoo, archery and spin casting practice, hands-on nature activities for kids, release of a rehabilitated wild bird, and more. Special events for this year’s celebration include a focus on the Alaska Railroad (which created Potter Marsh in 1916), and the federal Migratory Bird Treaty, which also turns 100 this year and started modern bird conservation efforts in North America. Come explore the marsh on this important centennial year and enter a free drawing for two tickets on the Alaska Railroad.

The Anchorage Market & Festival is a great place to bring family, friends, and visitors. It offers free and lively entertainment, great food, and a fun and safe atmosphere!

Hail and well met, traveler! Come with us and enter the Realm of the Three Barons. The quaint village of Hillshire welcomes Barons Red, Blue, and Green to come together for merriment and revelry. Sing feisty sea shanties with Pirates! Throw tomatoes at bad Shakespearean actors at the Tomato Show. Dance a reel with the Peasants. Gasp in awe as mighty warrior’s battle for glory on the Field of Honor. Listen as tales of adventure come to life through the day on multiple stages

Flattop Mountain Hike
Flattop is Alaska’s most visited peak. Ascend the 1.5 - mile, 1,350 vertical foot trail to the rocky, football field-sized summit in about an hour and take in panoramic views from Mt. McKinley to the Aleutian Islands. If you want vistas without the hike, walk the short path from the parking lot to the overlook. The more adventurous can hike from the parking lot 5 miles one-way to the scenic Williwaw Lakes or climb 5.5 miles to Wolverine Peak. Check out Flattop Mountain Shuttle which offers shuttle service that transports you from Downtown (4th and C) to Flattop or you can drive there by car.

Note, if you drive remember to bring cash for the $5.00 daily parking fee.
